Yes, he went in there for a dog. And the 3 of them in full gear, didn’t even go in for a man.

“Brave” man. In another timeline, he loses his life when the house collapses on him and the actual brave firefighters spend their lives fighting the PTSD of his death.

As logical and reasonable as a person that I try to be, I likely would have done the same thing for my dogs If I thought there was like even a 0.5% chance of them being able to get out okay.

I’d rather die in a fire than live knowing I didn’t do everything I could to save the life of a loved one, and that includes pets. Good on this man.

As observer I also shared immediate reactions of wondering whether that was the most firefighters could have done to aid…
But gathering from comments it seems like:
1. the hose could’ve been too much pressure/unsafe to spray on humans
2. steam from heat + water could’ve also been similarly even worse result
Curious to hear if any firefighters/pros have extra insights but otherwise just generally so glad he was able to save the dog and both came out okay…

Most people who gets dogs would do this. It’s because they become family and if you didn’t do it for family, then you’re wired up wrong. It’s a natural reaction and there is no choice.

There is no amount of fire that would keep me from diving in there and save my dog as well. His dog is his best friend, and that’s what best friends do!

Ive told the story before, and will again. Local house fire and the fire department breached the front door to see if anyone was inside. They were met by the home owner’s pets, every one of them. She had taught them that if the smoke detector sounded, to go to the door. She was paranoid about fire and not being able to save her pets. Saved their lives that day.

What a stupid, risky, idiotic, brave, laudable, and loyal thing to do. He should have just told the firemen to rescue his dog, but considering how they didn’t move to rescue him when he ran back in…
Idiot. Brave, heroic, idiot. I hope he recovers and lives a long and happy life with his dog.

Thank goodness the dog wasn’t hiding and was somewhere easily accessible. My cats will hide if something like this ever happens. They will surely die if I’m not home and a fire/emergency happens.
This is why appropriate crates and such could be beneficial. You know EXACTLY where they are so you can get them quickly or can direct someone to get them.

I would have assumed the fire department would have made more of an effort to go in after him. Maybe that’s against policy? Someone runs in, don’t run after?
